BBC is looking for Field Producer (Newsgathering) in Cairo, Egypt
You will provide specialist and general coverage of events in English and Arabic across the range of BBC outlets from BBC Arabic by producing and supporting reporters who make original stories for TV, radio and online.
You will work across TV, radio and digital production to help BBC Arabic expand the news agenda beyond the standard images and themes of the region which are more commonly reported, and expand the audience among under-represented groups and regional areas.
You will work primarily with the BBC Arabic reporter based in Cairo and bilingual reporters based in London. You need to be prepared to be deployed elsewhere at short notice including to hostile areas.
You'll need considerable experience of broadcast journalism on TV and radio and/or online along with a sound understanding of the needs of the BBC’s growing digital output in the Arabic region. You'll need a demonstrable ability to originate programme stories, work to tight deadlines and supervise staff. Experience of international deployments and breaking news stories is essential as well as knowledge, understanding and experience of working in hostile environments. You'll also need a demonstrable understanding of different needs, audiences and agendas of the full range of BBC programmes and channels, both those broadcast in the Arab region, in the UK and globally. You'll need a proven ability to develop original stories and a commitment to a breadth of reporting across the country. Candidates must demonstrate that they can speak, read and write Arabic and English to acceptable broadcast standard.
